The Amazon HSA/FSA Guide: How to Use Your Benefits Beyond the FSA Store (2026)
Amazon's FSA Store is mostly first aid, OTC medicine and skin care. Your HSA or FSA can cover far more of Amazon than that: air purifiers, ergonomic chairs, walking pads and open-ear headphones, once a Letter of Medical Necessity is in place. Here's how.

The quick answer
Can you use your HSA or FSA on Amazon?
Yes, for a narrow set of items. Many more qualify with an LMN.
Amazon takes HSA and FSA cards only for items it marks FSA or HSA eligible, mostly OTC basics. Items that need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) can't go through its checkout. Caeli handles both.
- Retailer covered
- Amazon.com (US billing addresses)
- Native HSA/FSA card acceptance
- Online, for items marked FSA or HSA eligible
- Native reach
- OTC and medical-supply items on the industry (SIGIS) list
- LMN items at Amazon's checkout
- Not supported: no way to attach an LMN
- With Caeli
- Badged and LMN items alike, with the LMN done at checkout
- Estimated tax savings
- About 30% of the price, depending on your bracket and plan
Estimated pre-tax savings: about $9 to $144 per item, at a 30% combined tax rate.
Caeli handles the LMN at checkout: a telehealth intake in under 3 minutes.
Amazon and your benefits
Amazon's FSA Store is only part of what your benefits cover
Some of the most useful health gear on Amazon isn't in its FSA Store. Dyson and Coway air purifiers that pull pollen and pet dander out of a bedroom, SHOKZ open-ear headphones that an LMN can cover for tinnitus or hearing loss, ergonomic chairs and walking pads for a back that hurts by Thursday. Much of it is premium, which is exactly where paying with pre-tax dollars helps most: roughly 30% back, depending on your bracket.
Here's the usual story. You need an air purifier for your allergies, you find the one you want on Amazon, and you pay for it with your personal credit card, because it has no FSA or HSA eligible badge and you assume that settles it. It doesn't. The badge tells you what Amazon's checkout will accept on a benefit card. It doesn't tell you what the IRS lets your HSA or FSA pay for.
The gap between the two is the Letter of Medical Necessity. An air purifier, a smart scale or an ergonomic chair is medical care when you buy it for a diagnosed condition, like asthma, obesity or chronic back pain, and an LMN from a clinician is the record that says so. Amazon has no way to take that LMN at checkout.
Natively
What Amazon's checkout covers on its own
Amazon takes HSA and FSA cards online, but only for items it marks FSA or HSA eligible. You'll see that badge in search results and on the product page, and the FSA Store collects them. Think everyday health basics:
- First aid kits, bandages and wound care
- Allergy relief, from allergy eye drops to antihistamines
- Nasal strips and decongestants
- Sunscreen and acne care
- Pain relievers, cough and cold medicine, and menstrual products, which qualify without a prescription since the CARES Act (IRS Publication 969; IRS release IR-2020-122)
- Thermometers, blood pressure monitors, pregnancy tests and contact lens solution
- Some wearables, like the Oura Ring (badged when we checked in October 2026), which count when you buy them for a diagnosed condition or on a clinician's recommendation (see the IRS guidance below)
Add the card under Your Payments. When a cart mixes badged and unbadged items, add a second payment method and Amazon charges each card its share; the benefit card covers the eligible items plus their tax and shipping. A return goes back to the original HSA or FSA card. One exception: Amazon Pharmacy won't split an order between a benefit card and another card.
Worth knowing: the badge follows SIGIS, the industry's product list, not the IRS. Amazon can only badge an item SIGIS lists. That cuts both ways. Most of what an LMN covers is missing from it, and some badged trackers qualify only for some buyers: under the IRS's 2026 guidance on wearables, a watch or ring counts when you buy it for a specific condition or on a clinician's recommendation, not to track your health in general.
The badge is a good start. It is not a list of everything your benefits cover.
Where checkout stops
Where Amazon's checkout stops: products that need an LMN
Under IRS Publication 502, an everyday product bought for a medical condition can be medical care: an air purifier for asthma, a scale for obesity, a chair for a herniated disc. What makes it medical is your diagnosis, and the LMN is how you show it. SIGIS can't list your diagnosis, so most of these products never get the badge, and Amazon's checkout refuses the benefit card for them.
The usual workaround is slow. You book a doctor's visit, often with a co-pay, ask for the letter, pay on your own card, download the invoice from Your Orders and file a claim with your plan. Shoppers also report that Amazon's invoice no longer shows an HSA-eligible amount, which leaves you to itemize it yourself.
Caeli removes most of that. The LMN comes from a telehealth intake during checkout, the payment comes from your benefit card, and the receipt and LMN are kept together for you.
Real life
Nobody checks eligibility in the middle of a cart
If you're like us, you shop on Amazon a few times a week. You go in for the thing you need, compare a few options and check out. Stopping to ask whether your HSA or FSA could pay for it rarely crosses your mind. The badge is easy to miss, and a product that needs an LMN never shows one at all.
That's the part Caeli takes off your plate. With the extension installed, a product your benefits could cover gets a note right on its page, including the ones that need an LMN. On everything else it stays quietly in the background. You don't have to remember the rules or look anything up: the check happens while you're already looking at the product.
It works the same whether Amazon badges the item or not, so there's one way to shop: pay with your benefit card through Caeli, and keep the receipt, and any LMN, in one place.
Benefit-maxxing works best when you don't have to remember to do it.
The how-to
How to use your HSA or FSA on all of Amazon
Browse as usual. Add the free Caeli extension and shop Amazon the way you always do.
See what's covered, on the page. On each product, Caeli shows whether your benefits cover it, including items that need an LMN and items Amazon hasn't badged.
Get the LMN at checkout. If the product needs an LMN, Caeli runs a telehealth intake right in the checkout: under 3 minutes, then a licensed clinician reviews and signs, usually in minutes. The LMN is dated before you buy.
Pay with benefit dollars. You pay with your HSA or FSA card, with no markup on Amazon's price. Caeli buys the item from Amazon for you and Amazon delivers it. Returns follow Amazon's policy; reply to your Caeli order confirmation email to start one.
Same Amazon product, badged or not, no markup on Amazon's price, paid with pre-tax dollars, with the LMN and receipt kept together.

How an LMN works
Usually an LMN means a doctor's appointment, often a co-pay, and asking for the letter. With Caeli it happens at checkout, for every LMN pick on this page: a telehealth intake in under 3 minutes, then a licensed clinician reviews and signs, usually in minutes. One LMN covers the product and similar ones for 12 months. These conditions are common examples, not the full list.
Conditions a clinician can cite include:
- Allergic rhinitis
- Asthma
- Obesity
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Low back pain
- Neck pain
- Tinnitus
- Hearing loss

Beyond the picks
Get more out of every Amazon order
Amazon's sales are a good moment to use this: when Prime Big Deal Days or Black Friday marks down a purifier or a scale, the tax saving stacks on the sale price. Our Prime Day guide shows how that played out in October, and our over-$500 picks cover the bigger buys.
For a dual-use item like a purifier or a chair, read strictly, Publication 502 counts only the cost above an ordinary version, though most plan administrators process the full price against a valid LMN. Keep the itemized receipt and the LMN, dated before you buy. Buy through Caeli and that part is done: every Buy-with-Benefits purchase is vaulted, itemized and audit-ready.
Questions
Frequently asked
Does Amazon accept a Letter of Medical Necessity at checkout?
No. Amazon's checkout only accepts an HSA or FSA card for items on the industry SIGIS list, and there's no way to attach an LMN to an order. For an item that needs one, you'd normally pay with another card and file a claim; Caeli gets the LMN during checkout and lets you pay with your benefit card.
Can I split an Amazon order between my FSA card and another card?
Yes. Add a second payment method and Amazon charges your HSA or FSA card for the eligible items, plus their tax and shipping, and the other card for the rest. Amazon Pharmacy is the exception: it won't split an order between a benefit card and another card.
What happens if I return an HSA or FSA purchase on Amazon?
Amazon refunds it to the original HSA or FSA card, which puts the money back in your account. For an order placed through Caeli, reply to your Caeli order confirmation email to start the return; Amazon's return policy applies.
How do I get a receipt from Amazon for an HSA or FSA claim?
In Your Orders, choose Invoice under the order number once it ships. Plan administrators want an itemized receipt, not a card statement. Buy through Caeli and the itemized receipt and any LMN are kept together for you.
Can I use an LSA on Amazon?
Often, depending on your employer. A Lifestyle Spending Account covers the categories your employer chooses, like fitness or home office, and is usually paid by reimbursement. Add it to your Caeli benefit profile and Caeli shows which Amazon products it can cover.
Is an Amazon product without the FSA or HSA eligible badge ineligible?
Not necessarily. The badge reflects the SIGIS list, which can't account for your diagnosis. Air purifiers and ergonomic chairs are HSA/FSA eligible with an LMN, and the Caeli extension tells you on the product page.
Shop Amazon like your benefits cover it, because they might.
Install Caeli, shop Amazon as usual, and let it show you what your HSA or FSA covers. Then enjoy cleaner air, a better chair, or a run with your ears open.
