The GLP-1 Companion Care Kit: HSA/FSA-Eligible Tools to Support Your Weight Loss Journey
A GLP-1 takes care of the appetite. Keeping your muscle, eating enough protein and riding out the side effects is where the right tools help, and they can come out of your HSA or FSA. Here is the kit, which pieces need a Letter of Medical Necessity, and which need nothing at all.

The quick answer
Can you use your HSA or FSA for tools that support GLP-1 weight loss?
Yes. Most of the kit needs an LMN for a diagnosis like obesity; the rest needs nothing.
Strength gear, scales and protein need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) tying them to a diagnosed condition. Blood pressure monitors, sharps containers and OTC stomach remedies need no LMN.

Caeli handles the LMN at checkout: a telehealth intake in under 3 minutes.
The kit
The medicine handles appetite. The rest is yours to build
Home strength gear has never been better, and for a lot of people it has never mattered more. BowFlex's SelectTech dumbbells swap fifteen sets of weights for one pair you adjust with a twist of the dials, Concept2's RowErg is the rower people train, test and race on, and a Withings scale now reports your muscle, not just your weight. The best of it is premium, which is exactly where HSA and FSA dollars help.
If you have started Wegovy, Zepbound or another GLP-1, the medicine is doing the hard part of eating less. That is also the catch. In the STEP 1 trial of semaglutide, 38% of the weight people lost was lean mass, and a smaller appetite makes it easy to fall short on protein. A 2025 joint advisory from four lifestyle-medicine, nutrition and obesity societies names adequate protein and strength training as the way to preserve lean mass. It suggests strength training at least three times a week plus 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise, and, for many people, 80 to 120 grams of protein a day.
That is the kit: something to lift, something for the cardio, a scale that shows whether the weight coming off is fat or muscle, enough protein, and a few small things for the side effects and the pens. Caeli does not sell GLP-1 medicines; this is everything around them.
Paying with benefits
Obesity is a diagnosis, and that opens the door
The IRS treats obesity as a disease. IRS Publication 502 counts what you spend to lose weight when it treats "a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease)", and your GLP-1 prescription counts as a prescribed medicine. Wegovy and Zepbound are approved for adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition, so if you take one for weight, you likely already have the diagnosis that matters.
Dumbbells, a rower, a smart scale and a protein shake are dual-use: useful to anyone, medical care only when they serve your condition. The IRS FAQ on nutrition and wellness draws that line for weight-loss programs, gym memberships and supplements alike: yes when they treat a disease a physician diagnosed, no for general health. An LMN is that link, on paper. The blood pressure monitor, the sharps container and the over-the-counter remedies in this kit need no LMN.
None of this is yours to track. On whatever you're shopping for, Caeli shows whether your benefits cover it, and handles the LMN when one is needed.
How an LMN works
The usual route is a doctor's appointment, often a co-pay, and a request for the LMN. With Caeli it happens at checkout: a telehealth intake in under 3 minutes, and a licensed clinician reviews and signs, usually in minutes. The LMN is dated before you buy, names your condition, and covers the product and similar ones for 12 months. One nuance: obesity supports the equipment and the scale, while the protein shake needs a condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome or sarcopenia; obesity counts for it only at a BMI of 40 to 44.9. The conditions below are common examples, not the full list.
Conditions a clinician can cite include:
- Obesity
- Type 2 diabetes
- High blood pressure
- Metabolic syndrome
- Sarcopenia
The short version: the gear, the scale and the protein ride on an LMN for your diagnosis; the monitor, the sharps container and the stomach remedies need nothing.
The picks
Five tools for the muscle you want to keep
The editor's pick comes first, then four more from the splurge to the budget pick: a rower for the cardio half of the plan, a scale that separates fat from muscle, a protein-and-multivitamin set made for GLP-1 users, and a band set for anyone starting from zero. Each needs an LMN.

Editor's pick: protect your muscle
BowFlex Results Series 552 SelectTech Dumbbells
Starting strength training at home
One pair of dumbbells with 15 settings from 5 to 52.5 pounds each, changed with a twist of the dials, so the load can climb as you get stronger without a rack of iron in the spare room. A pair that lives beside the couch makes three sessions a week easier to keep. BowFlex covers parts for two years.

Concept2 RowErg
The splurge: low-impact cardio that works the whole body
Concept2 calls it a full-body, low-impact workout that works every major muscle group, and tests it for users up to 500 pounds. It comes with the PM5 performance monitor, and it splits in two for storage without tools. It covers the aerobic half of the plan.

Withings Body Comp Black
Mid-range: see whether you are losing fat or muscle
Beyond weight, it reports fat, muscle, bone and water mass and visceral fat, so a month of lost pounds shows what it was made of. It syncs over Wi-Fi, recognizes up to 8 users and runs about 15 months on its batteries. Read body composition as a trend, not a lab result.

Ritual GLP-1 Nutrition Support Ritual*
Special purpose: women who struggle to eat enough on a GLP-1
Ritual pairs its Essential for Women 18+ multivitamin with its Daily Shake, a plant-based pea protein with 20 grams per serving. Ritual built the set because a smaller appetite can leave gaps in protein, iron, magnesium and vitamins D and B12. It qualifies as a supplement your clinician recommends, not as a meal replacement.

Sunny Health & Fitness Strength Training Resistance Band Combo - 10-95 lbs
Budget: strength work before you buy weights
Four color-coded natural-latex loop bands, light to extra-heavy, for assisted pull-ups, upper- and lower-body work, core training and stretching. They fit in a drawer or a suitcase. Skip them if you have a latex allergy.

The small things that make the first months easier
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation lead the common side effects on the Wegovy label, with indigestion and burping further down, and Novo Nordisk says the nausea is generally temporary. Over-the-counter medicine is HSA/FSA eligible with no prescription, per the IRS FAQ above, and so is the rest of this shelf. Ask your prescriber which remedy suits you before you add one.

Omron Evolv Blood Pressure Monitor with Storage Case
If you have high blood pressure
A one-piece upper-arm monitor with no tubes, a cuff that fits arms from 9 to 17 inches, and Bluetooth sync to the OMRON Connect app. The American Heart Association recommends home monitoring for everyone with high blood pressure, and when treatment starts or changes, so your clinician can see whether it is working.

Kendall Kendal 8900SA Sharps Container 1 qt, Red
If your GLP-1 comes as a pen
The FDA says to put used needles in a sharps disposal container right away. This one holds a quart, a sensible size for a home. How to get rid of a full one varies by city, so check with your local health department. On the once-daily Wegovy pill, you can skip it.

MiraLAX Powder Laxative, 68 Doses
Constipation
An over-the-counter laxative powder, 68 doses, that dissolves in a drink. Fluids matter on a GLP-1 anyway: the Wegovy label warns that diarrhea, nausea and vomiting can lead to dehydration.

Two IRS details, and what to keep
Read strictly, Publication 502 counts only "the excess of the cost of the item in a special form over the cost of the item in normal form" for a dual-use item; in practice most administrators process the full price against a valid LMN, and yours can tell you how they treat it. The other clear line is diet food: the IRS does not count food that stands in for what you would normally eat, which is why the Ritual shake belongs in the kit as a supplement your clinician recommends, not as a meal plan.
Keep the LMN and the itemized receipt together; that is what a claim or an audit asks for. Buy through Caeli and that part is handled: every Buy-with-Benefits purchase is vaulted in the Reimbursement Vault, itemized and audit-ready.
Questions
Frequently asked
Can I use my HSA or FSA for Wegovy or Zepbound itself?
Prescribed medicines are medical expenses under IRS Publication 502, so your out-of-pocket cost for a prescribed GLP-1 can come from your HSA or FSA. Caeli does not sell the medicine; this kit is everything around it.
Do I need an LMN for dumbbells or a rower if I'm on a GLP-1?
Yes. Exercise equipment is dual-use, so it needs an LMN tying it to a diagnosed condition such as obesity or type 2 diabetes. The LMN names the condition the medicine treats, not the medicine.
Is protein powder HSA/FSA eligible on a GLP-1?
Only as a supplement a clinician recommends for a diagnosed condition, under IRS rules. Through Caeli, the protein pick needs an LMN naming a condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome or sarcopenia; obesity counts only at a BMI of 40 to 44.9. A shake used as a meal replacement counts as diet food, which does not qualify.
Why isn't a fitness tracker in the kit?
On September 23, 2026 the IRS added guidance on wearables: a band, watch or ring is not a medical expense merely because it tracks health information, and it is one when you buy and use it primarily for a specific disease. A general wish to monitor your health is not enough, so we kept this kit to tools with a clear route. If a clinician recommends a tracker for your condition, keep that recommendation with the receipt.
Can one LMN cover the dumbbells, the rower and the scale?
An LMN covers the product it names and similar ones for 12 months, so a heavier pair of dumbbells can ride on the first. A scale or a rower is a different kind of product; if it needs its own LMN, Caeli handles it at checkout the same way.
Do I need an LMN for the blood pressure monitor or the sharps container?
No. Both are HSA/FSA eligible as they are, and so is over-the-counter medicine such as MiraLAX or TUMS. Pay with your card and keep the receipt.
Come out of it stronger.
The medicine changes how much you eat; the kit is how you keep your muscle, feel steadier through the side effects and trust the number on the scale. Pick the pieces that fit your plan, and let Caeli handle the LMN.

Prediabetes Management: 7 HSA/FSA-Eligible Tools for Your A1C Plan
An A1C between 5.7% and 6.4% means prediabetes. What brings it down is mostly walking, weight and food. Your HSA or FSA can pay for the tools that make that plan measurable: a glucose sensor, a meter and a blood pressure cuff with no paperwork, and, with a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) for a qualifying condition such as obesity or high blood pressure, a scale, a walking treadmill, dumbbells and a rowing machine.
